As summer continues to warm up, our market continues to grow! Stop by our market to visit these new artisans:

Community Art-making Workshop
10am - 1pm

Join us at Artisans Row for a free art demonstration and workshop. Laurie Rossbach, Art Director for the Procession of the Species Community Art Parade, will lead a papier mache mask making demonstration. Participants can also join in a hands-on project helping to create a "tree of life" decoration that will be carried in the parade. Masks and photos from the 2009 parade will also be on display. Djembe Drum Carving/Building Demonstration

presented by master woodcarver, Djam Vivie

sponsored by Wisconsin Arts Board

We are excited to host this unique event!
Please join our guest artist, Djam, as he demonstrates the traditional art of wood carving from his home country of Ghanna, West Africa. Djam is an educator who shares his craft through workshops, classroom instruction, and public demonstrations. He is also a locally-known musician. You may have heard him perform at festivals or with the Madison-based Atimevu Drum and Dance group.

Market News for May 9th

We had a fantastic opening market last weekend! Thank you to all the great people who came out and shopped Artisans Row - it was great to see everyone after the long winter. I just posted some photos from last Sunday on the "Photos" page.

This week our guest musician will be David Sewell. David will play his distinctive blend of acoustic traditional country, folk and blues music for us from 9 - 11am. Anyone who shops at Willy Street Co-Op has doubtless heard David's guitar and harmonica playing. If we're lucky, he'll have some of his cd's for sale, too!

Sunday's weather should be lovely - sunny and cool. We'll be waiting to see you at Artisans Row with jewelry, glassware, body products, pottery, screen printed clothing and furniture - grab Mom a last minute present on your to visit her or bring Mom to market and let her pick the perfect gift and enjoy David's music!

Johnny G to rock in Artisans Row 2010 season

The opening market is this Sunday, May 2nd and we're so glad to have Johnny G as our featured musician! Johnny G has been playing guitar over 30 years. Originally from Chicago, he has toured in Europe and the United States playing blues, rock and acoustic melodies. Playing covers by traditional icons like Eric Clapton, BB King, Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones, Johnny pulls at the roots of Rock and Roll. His acoustic original tunes are reflective melodies that can move the listener to emotion. Johnny plays electric and acoustic guitar, sings, writes and is currently performing in several bands from Madison, Wisconsin. He is a member of The American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP) and a strong supporter of live music in south central Wisconsin. Johnny G plays with Johnny Fish and The Fins - click on the band name to listen to a few tracks!

Call for Artisans, musicians and other performing artists

We've spent the past month or so organizing, doing publicity and reviewing applications from fantastic local artisans. Be sure to check out the April/May issue of the Northside News and the May/June issue of the Eastside News for articles about Artisans Row. May 2nd is just a few weeks away now and we're really looking forward to the start of our 2010 season!

We are still accepting applications in all categories, except jewelry and body products. Ceramic, textile, home/garden, children’s wares, and glass artisans are especially encouraged to apply. Applications are due by April 15th to be considered for the first market, but will be accepted on a continual basis. Full season, half season and monthly options are available.

Hello Everyone,
First, a big homegrown "Thank You!" to everyone who came out to visit us during the 2009 season. We truly appreciate your business and your committment to supporting your local artisans!
Vicki, Jean and I are hard at work reorganizing and expanding Artisans Row. We are excited about the changes and look forward to launching the 2010 season of the Artisans Row Market on Sunday, May 2. Please mark your calendars, stay tuned for updates and plan to join us!
